Hypertension is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases for which treatment is available; however, most hypertensive people, without their knowledge, are left untreated and ignored. Because hypertension presents no overt symptoms, it is termed the silent killer. If left untreated and ignored, it may progress to a more complex disease such as renal failure, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, or stroke. Hypertension, also known as high-blood pressure, as commonly defined in many medical books is a disease of vascular regulation resulting from malfunction of arterial pressure control mechanism. But to the common public, having a blood pressure of 140/90 mug or above, you are already considered to be hypertensive.
There are two considered kinds of risk factors that may cause hypertension to a person. First, the non-modifiable factors; One is family history. A person may have a family background of hypertension from their grandparents down to their parents, chances are if you have a history of hypertension within your family, you are also at risk of being hypertensive. Another non-modifiable risk factor is Age. As we grow older our body system gets weaker which makes us more vulnerable to being hypertensive. We can’t stop getting old but we can take some considerations as we aged and one of which is our lifestyle. One more non-modifiable factor to consider is gender, statistically speaking; men are more prone to being hypertensive than women. Studies show that 14 out of 20 elderly men per home care are hypertensive. And only 7 out 20 per home care of women.
The second kind of risk factor that is to be considered is the Modifiable Factors; such as stress, obesity, diet and lifestyle. Being overweight is a risk to being hypertensive but it can be modified by losing weight through exercise and proper diet. Cigarette smoking causes less oxygen being carried by our blood throughout our circulatory system which causes hypertension. But by quitting smoking or by not smoking at all, it takes away that risk of being hypertensive. Prevention is better than recardio bulgaria rehab. There are many ways to prevent hypertension; like having a low fat diet, exercise, alcohol limitation, low caffeine intake, relaxation, calcium supplementation, and best of all is having a stress-free lifestyle. But if you are already hypertensive, then you can modify your life to become a hypertensive-free person; like weight reduction, sodium restriction, caffeine restriction, smoking cessation and so much more as well like in preventing.
A silent killer like this always finds its way to crawl into our lives through temptation. And it can kill as little by little, inch by inch, slowly running into our veins as if everything is okay and normal. But we can think about it and act now before it takes our lives away from us and before it’s too late. Many are dependent on its pharmacologic interventions like taking anti-hypertensive pills which is truly helpful and not to mention it is lifetime. But why wait for a lifetime of dependency when we can actually modify our lives now for the better and prevent hypertension from occurring? Think about it.
